Master of Forestry student UC Berkeley Felton, California, United States
This project is examining the effects of varied canopy retention levels on Oak dominated hardwood forests on the Central Coast of California in the Santa Cruz Mountains. This project was implemented in conjunction with a local Forester and a tribal group (The Amah Mutson Land Trust Stewars).
Learning Objectives:
understand the concept of thinning forests for the objective of increasing resilience to drought, wildfire and other density dependent disturbances.
define the concepts of pyrodiversity and pyrosilviculture.
understand the concept of increasing light to the forest floor and how that can increase biodiversity and forage for animals.
