The Proctor Experimental Forest is a newly-established research site in Andover, New Hampshire comprised of 150 permanent research plots. The extensive inventory data facilitates ecological research projects, informs land management, and serves as a unique teaching tool. This presentation will outline the project design, future directions, and opportunities for research.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to explain the value of long-term ecological research and experimental forest sites in a world of changing environmental stressors. Participants will think critically about the types of data that are most useful and the ways they can inform conservation and management decisions. In particular, participants will learn about the design of the Proctor Experimental Forest and consider the ways the project can be valuable for research, education, and management.
Upon completion, participants will be able to brainstorm feasible ecological questions and consider possible study designs to address them in the framework of a research forest. The presentation will include time for conversation around possible collaborations, education models, and research directions for the project.
