Biological Research and Development Specialist Mast Reforestation Seattle, Washington, United States
Direct seeding to aid artificial forest regeneration was implemented in the Pacific Northwest in the early-mid 1900’s, but is currently seldom used. Here we discuss the reasons for its decline based on results of historical practices and current technological improvements in forestry that may allow for successful future direct seeding.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participant will be able to define the various changes in legislation and public opinion in the PNW region that promoted the use of artificial regeneration and reforestation experimentation in forest ecosystems.
Upon completion, participant will be able explain the factors that led to inadequate conversion rates from direct seeding.
Upon completion, participant will be able to list various modern technological improvements to forestry to improve direct seeding or other aspects of the reforestation pipeline.
