This study compared aboveground carbon storage between old-growth and second-growth maple-basswood stands in southern Minnesota and found no significant difference between the old-growth and second-growth stands studied. Besides being informative for management, results highlight the importance of clearly defining old-growth forest.
Learning Objectives:
describe how aboveground carbon storage potential compares between old-growth and second-growth maple-basswood stands, based on results from this study.
describe an example highlighting the importance of clearly defining old-growth forest.
