Stand growth and yield models are used to predict the growth of intensively managed pine plantations. Competition limits pine productivity, and models may be adjusted via competition indices. Previously defined indices have been limited in their application. A new growth and yield model is proposed which incorporates improved competition indices.

Upon completion, participant will be able to describe the methods available for incorporating measures of competing vegetation into a stand-level growth and yield model.
Upon completion, participant will be able to outline the primary challenges related to modelling competing vegetation growth and describe the benefits of accounting for competing vegetation within growth and yield model systems.
