Don Motanic is an enrolled member with the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. He is currently a part time tribal forestry consultant. He retired in 2021 after serving 25 years as a Technical Specialist with the Intertribal Timber Council. He’s spent most of his 43-year career as a forest engineer and forest manager with the Bureau of Indian Affairs that included living and working with the Yakama Nation, Umatilla and Spokane Tribes. He has been involved with Native youth through the American Indian Science and Engineering Society, Wisdom of the Elders, Inc., Washington Ag Forestry Leadership Foundation, Washington State University-Vancouver Native Advisory Council, and the Society of American Foresters. He received his forestry degree from the University of Washington in 1978. He enjoys spending time with his wife Mary Beth and all the adventures of their three daughters and twin grandsons.
