Tom Panella is originally from Chicago, Illinois, with an undergraduate degree in Anthropology and Geography from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a professional background in purchasing, inventory management, and logistics. In an attempt to marry his love of plants, the outdoors, and his career skills he completed his Master of Forestry from Michigan Technological University in 2022. During the MF program, he discovered his passion for research and forest health. Tom began his PhD in the fall of 2022 with a project focussed on insect collection curation and Beech Bark disease remediation at two National Park Service properties.
