Biography
Shaun Harkins graduated from High School in 1989 and went to work for the US Forest Service as a seasonal employee for five years while attending college. He was accepted into the Oregon State University College of Forestry and completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Management in 1994 with a minor emphasis in Geology. After graduation Shaun worked for International Paper Co., Georgia-Pacific Inc., The Timber Company, Plum Creek, and Weyerhaeuser as a Logging Supervisor for a total of 22 years. In 2016, Shaun became a casualty of merger and after a four-month vacation, began work for the Bureau of Land Management in Coos Bay, OR as a Contract Administrator Forester. His primary duties include timber sale and road construction contract administration, timber trespass, timber cruising, and fire. Shaun serves on the District Safety Committee, Timber Sale Information System (TSIS) Project Change Management Board, and the Western Oregon Transportation Team (WOTT). He is a SAF Certified Forester, Fellow, and the current Chairperson of the Coos Chapter Oregon Society of American Foresters. Shaun has served SAF in various positions at the local and state levels for most of his career. One of Shaun’s first assignments at BLM was working with Mike Bechdolt to produce a cable logging safety video. Most of the footage in this video was filmed in Coos Bay, OR on logging sides administered by Shaun. You will get to preview some of the footage in our presentation.
