Jim Lyons began his career with the US Fish and Wildlife Service then served as Policy Director for the Society of American Foresters and later staff on the House Committee on Agriculture. Jim was USDA Under Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment in the Clinton administration overseeing the Forest Service and NRCS and helped develop the Northwest Forest Plan. Under President Obama Jim was Interior Department Deputy Assistant Secretary for Lands and Minerals Management leading efforts to conserve the Greater sage grouse. He has taught at Yale's School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and honored there as a distinguished alum.
