Specialist, Biological Research & Development Mast Reforestation Seattle, Washington, United States
To meet current goals for reforestation, improvements in equipment innovation, infrastructure, and incentives for outplanting labor pools are required. We examined historical and existing outplanting practices using literature reviews, on-site interviews with foresters and planters, and field observations during planting events throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to properly define various components of the reforestation pipeline and understand outplanting as a limiting factor that is critical to the success of reforestation goals.
Upon completion, participants will be able to compare components of the reforestation pipeline in its current state to a historical lens, depicting the considerable requirements that are necessary in order for a reforestation project to be completed. The current state of outplanting in the Western U.S. will be defined, illustrating key logistical challenges such as capacity, timelines, workforce, incentives, and physical strain that we have defined as obstacles of current reforestation goals being completed successfully.
Upon completion, participants will be able to differentiate between various stakeholders who partake in large-scale reforestation projects, identifying their project objectives, costs, and required organizational needs -- reinforcing the multifaceted approach to the reforestation pipeline. Due to minor advances occurring since the dissolution of the CCC, improvements in infrastructure and innovation are required, therefore participants will be able to list out possible areas of improvement needed to meet current and future reforestation goals.
