It all starts with seed! This presentation will focus on the past, present, and future of seed collection in the western US on a path to scaling reforestation.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants should have a better understanding of the magnitude of the seed collection challenge and the work/innovation that will be required to meet the reforestation goals presentation by agency, non-profit, academics, and industry alike. With recent attention on the reforestation pipeline, we have not seed a proportional development of seed collection capacity, with reliance on a few experienced actors from the private sector. In order to scale, an all hands on deck approach must be taken and paired with innovations in survey, scouting, collection, logistics, and banking to achieve necessary seed collection targets for the common good.
Upon completion, participants will be able to speak to the technical needs of a collection operation for conifer species that dominate western forest communities.
