Student Mississippi State University Armuchee, Georgia, United States
Many North American pine species are adapted to fire. We tested the hypothesis that loblolly pine trees have improved growth rates after prescribed burning in stands located in central Mississippi. Through dendrochronological assessments, we demonstrate an increase in growth post-prescribed fire compared to pre-fire growth.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participant will be able to explain how prescribed fire impacts tree growth.
Upon completion, participant will be able to recognize how prescribed fire can be used to promote tree growth and vigor in managed pine stands in the southeastern United States.
