Igniting prescribed fires using unmanned aerial systems (drones) shows great promise to not only achieve management objectives on the ground, but also to increase field staff safety. Burning a mixed pine-hardwood stand using drone aerial ignition appears to have comparable fire behavior and effects compared to that of non-drone ignitions.
Learning Objectives:
Use field techniques to measure basic fire behavior parameters for prescribed fires.
Understand how prescribed fire behavior and effects may different depending on ignition source.
