Tree canopy coverage impacts human depression. Tree condition influences on human health are largely unexplored. National tree inventory data and depression statistics will be used to study tree health and depression. Urban planning, urban tree benefits, and environmental health and mental health outcomes could be influenced by the findings.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will understand the association between tree conditions and depression in urban cities.
Participants will understand the methodology for conducting research on the relationship between tree health and mental health and identify the methodological challenges.
Participants will be motivated to design and implement a research plan to study this relationship.
Participants will be aware of the evidence on the importance of tree maintenance for mental health in cities, and how this can inform urban policy.
Participants will be motivated to build relationships with stakeholders such as local governments, community organizations, and environmental development organizations to promote tree maintenance for improved mental health.
