We will plant different herbaceous species in high severity patches in the Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon burn scar to compare the efficacy of various plant functional groups and planting approaches (i.e., monoculture and polyculture) in terms of ground cover and reduction in soil loss.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participation will be able to determine whether herbaceous species need to be actively seeded in high burn area, or they will re-establish back naturally.
Upon completion, participation will be able to determine whether seeding a diverse herbaceous plant species mix will increase biomass cover (overyielding) compared to monocultures.
Upon completion, participation will be able to quantify the amount of soil loss through different seeding treatments at different slopes and aspects after high severe wildfires.
