Santalum (sandalwood) species are ecologically distinct as evergreen, hemiparasitic trees. We grew four ‘iliahi seedling stocktypes in the nursery to be planted at adjacent sites with different substrates. Our results demonstrate that different stocktypes can produce quality ‘iliahi and that outplanting success at specific sites may depend on the stocktype.
Learning Objectives:
1. Describe what stocktypes are and how they relate to the Target Plant Concept
2. Identify nursery techniques that may support hemiparasitic connections
3. Extrapolate how these reforestation concepts apply to other species and ecosystems
