The widely accepted "10-20-30 rule" provides guidance for increasing urban street tree planting diversity, but is not rooted in ecological theory and does not consider spatial scales. We suggest a more comprehensive approach, incorporating alpha, beta, gamma diversity, to understand diversity patterns of urban street trees at different spatial scales.
Learning Objectives:
think about what drives biodiversity in the urban landscape
think about how to increase diversity across multiple criteria
