We investigate the drivers and long-term behavior of suppression expenditures of the Forest Service and the Department of the Interior. Our study emphasizes the importance of seasonality in monthly expenditures and the need for different modeling approaches to better understand the relationship between climate variables and suppression costs.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to describe and define the wildfire suppression expenditures forecasting process of the USDA Forest Service and the Department of the Interior.
Participants will also learn about advanced time series techniques used to investigate seasonality and the relationships between suppression expenditures and climate variables.
