The dual management of forests for both timber and carbon sequestrations adds dynamic to the economic assessment of forested land. The present value of timber must be compared against the future value of timber and carbon combined. This presentation addresses the timber and carbon trade off dynamic for Appalachian forests.
Learning Objectives:
'Upon completion, participants will be able to recognize the applicability of the USFS's 'Forest Vegetation Simulator' and the FIA's forest database when assessing the tradeoff of carbon and timber management.
Upon completion, participants will be able to describe why regional analysis of carbon and timber dynamics is preferred over blanket analysis.
