The PHiLL project investigates the establishment of ephemeral pollinator habitat on the Hoosier, Shawnee, and Mark Twain National Forests of Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri. Four treatments including biochar, soil ripping, ripping and biochar, and control were applied to improve soil conditions, along with the seeding of pollinator-friendly native plants.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to describe the vegetation response of native seeded and invasive species to four treatments across Midwestern log landings. Treatments include a biochar amendment, soil ripping, biochar and ripping, and a control.
Upon completion, participants will be able to evaluate the efficacy of seeding a range of competitive, pollinator-friendly plants on log landings, degraded sites that may offer the unique opportunity to act as early-successional habitat for wild bees.
