Owner/Principal Forester Forest & Habitat Professionals LLC Olympia, Washington, United States
This presentation will teach practicing foresters how to use a 2x2 decision matrix (i.e., PICK Chart) to help less-traditional forest landowners identify and prioritize their management objectives. The method demonstrated in this presentation is borrowed from the discipline of LEAN Six Sigma.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to conduct a 2x2 decision matrix exercise designed to assist small forest landowners in identifying and prioritizing their forest management objectives. This matrix (PICK chart) is a simple yet powerful tool that foresters can learn easily. Although this specific example will demonstrate an application for a small private forest, it can easily be adapted for other ownership classifications.
Upon completion, participants will be able to compare and prioritize multiple management objectives, including both potential revenue-generating practices (e.g., timber harvests, wild plant foraging, maple syrup production, etc.) and non-revenue-generating practices (e.g., hunting, passive recreation, etc.).
